I deeply, deeply admire this man, the “Conqueror of Polio” as he was called, not simply for his brilliant work and his devotion; but his ethics too. The man understood that his vaccine was not his alone; but belonged to the world. I want to go into Medicine very badly. And I believe that a Doctor has a responsibly beyond all other professions. Any decent Doctor should be putting people before profits. Mr. Salk understood that. I say, if you want money, become a banker or a lawyer; never a doctor.
